The Department of Heat and Alternative Power Engineering was established in 2022, as part of the Educational and Research Institute of Nuclear and Heat Power Engineering, joining the Department of Heat Power Engineering, Department of Heat Engineering and Energy Efficiency. The Department of Thermal Power Engineering was reorganized in 2021 as part of the Faculty of Thermal Power Engineering due to the merger of two departments – the Department of Thermal Power Plants of Thermal and Nuclear Power Plants and the Department of Theoretical and Industrial Heat Engineering. The department trains heat engineers in the specialty 144 “Heat Power Engineering” under the educational programs “Heat Power Engineering and Heat Power Plants” and “Energy management and engineering of thermal power systems”. Since 2016, according to the Law “On Higher Education” and the new rules of admission, specialists in higher education are trained bachelor – master – Doctor of Philosophy.
Successful human activity today and in the future largely depends on comfortable energy conditions. Thermal and alternative energy in the total generation of electric and thermal energy of Ukraine is 40-47%. The most important tasks of our time are the problems of developing new innovative systems of energy production using traditional and alternative energy sources, as well as the widespread use of low-cost technologies and energy saving.
The subject of activity of graduates of the specialty 144 “Heat Power Engineering” , which is prepared by the Department of Heat and Alternative Power Engineering in Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, is the development of modern thermal power equipment and its operation; design, installation and repair of power plant equipment; modeling of thermal, hydraulic and strength processes in power plants, thermal and nuclear power plants and installations, automated control systems of thermal power processes, operation of power plant equipment, ecology of power plants, modeling in energy, creation of automated power plant design systems using CAD/CAM/CAE AutoCAD, SolidWorks, AnSYS and others; development of new efficient schemes and optimal modes of heat supply, introduction of energy-saving and waste-free technologies, new equipment and installations, provision of comfortable working conditions for people.
The Department of Heat and Alternative Power Engineering has a modern educational and scientific base, teachers and students conduct active researches on the design and operation of power equipment, rational use of energy resources, development of new heating systems based on heat pumps, solar collectors, high efficiency hydrogen contact heat generators, air conditioning, desalination development of new devices and installations based on contact energy exchange, the latest innovative systems and technologies of energy and heat supply of private homes, industrial shops, recreation centers and sports and entertainment centers. Students took an active part in research, annually present more than 100 scientific reports and real energy efficiency projects.
The Department of Heat and Alternative Power Engineering has international agreements and contacts with the Warsaw University of Technology and Opole Polytechnic University (Poland) – Double Diploma Programs, La Laguna University (Spain), Zhejiang University of Science and Technology (Kangzhou, Hangzhou, Technology (Seoul) – a scholarship program for graduate students.
Students of the department have the opportunity to study or intern under the ERASMUS + program in Germany, Poland, Spain, France and other countries, as well as to participate in the double degree program with the company “Kyiv Heat Networks” (dual education agreement) .
Students study modern heat and power equipment and its operation; design, installation and repair of heat power equipment; modeling of thermal, hydraulic and strength processes in power plants, thermal and nuclear power plants and installations, automated control systems of thermal power processes, operation of thermal power plant equipment, power plant ecology, modeling in energy, computer graphics: CAD TPP and NPP, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, AnSYS and others.
Full-time students have the opportunity to receive a scholarship. Out-of-town students are provided with a dormitory (dormitory № 1, 4 of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute).
Full-time students have the opportunity to receive military training and rank.
Graduates majoring in “Heat Power Engineering” and “Energy management and engineering of thermal systems“, design and operate complex energy facilities – power plants, operate and operate power plants, installation, repair and adjustment of power equipment enterprises.
Graduates and undergraduates of the Department of Heat and Alternative Energy are employed in modern and well-known organizations, companies, consortiums, such as Robert Bosch, Buderus , Viessmann, Vaillant, OPEKS Energy Systems, IVIK HOLDING-GROUP, Group; SVP “Kyiv Heat Networks”, LLC “EURO-RECONSTRUCTION”, LLC “UTEM-ENGINEERING”, Research Institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, etc. They work at thermal and nuclear power plants, heating networks of utilities, installation and commissioning organizations, repair companies, design institutes, control centers, institutes of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Energy Company, private companies.
